Redefining Public Spaces
Candy Chang is a public installation artist, designer, and urban planner who likes to make cities more comfortable for people. She’s the co-founder of Civic Center, an urban design studio in New Orleans, where she combines architecture, graphic design, and urban planning to make thoughtful public spaces and communication tools for everyday issues of city life.
Two projects of her’s that I really like is the Before I Die Project and the Neighbor Doorknob Hanger. It takes communication public, rather than hiding on our cell phones or behind our closed doors, we’re inviting others to share thoughts and sugar! It’s not always about how intense the art or design is, it is about the simplicity of it and if it gets people thinking.

You can print your own hangers (PDF) Please Disturb & Can I Borrow
These are perfect for apartment buildings!
She’s passionate about redefining the ways we use public space to share information important to our neighborhoods and to our individual well-being. She believes that one of the greatest things in life is spending time in public places with the people you love. She also believes that these spaces can better serve the people who live, work, and play in them.
And this is just a fun project she has: Project Moustache
Door hangers! What a great way to meet neighbors and get to know each other! I’m going to use it. I’ve already down loaded the pdf. Thanks, Candy Chang for a fantastic idea!
