Mikey Welsh on [i]
Mikey Welsh is a painter living in Burlington, Vermont. He worked in collage and watercolors until the age of 19, when he began his music career. By the age of 30, he had achieved international fame as the bassist for the alt-rock band Weezer.
The touring and drugs and stress of the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle took their toll. He suffered a nervous breakdown in 2001, and left the band to recover. He dedicated himself to painting full-time and started a family. He is known for large-scale primitive figures and more recently, colorful abstracts deconstructing other figurative work. He is also well known for skate park murals and designing skate decks and snowboards. Please click here to see the full article on PBS [i]IndependentLens. In other Mikey Welsh news, he will be showing at The Slingluff Gallery this July!
