“So This Is Goodbye”
The Slingluff Gallery presents Mark Havens, “So This is Goodbye”, featuring photography on wood opening August 6, from 6-9p.
“So This Is Goodbye” is a work about memory. Almost immediately after an experience, the mind changes it—if only slightly at first—discarding certain details, shifting lines, distorting colors. Until eventually a vivid memory, even one still easily recalled, has jettisoned it’s myriad of details and is only an impression, a fragment. I’’m interested in this inexorable reduction of memory and ways to visually represent it.
These images are not only depictions of the actual things being remembered, but are representations of memory itself—impure, imperfect. The scenes, already devoid of their human players, are themselves beginning to wilt.
