Here’s a Biennial I’d like to see…
Having just returned from a month of traveling in Africa and a bit out of touch with what’s been going on in the world, I’ve been spending a lot of time catching up with current events and streaming the internet for interesting happenings, especially in the art scene. I just saw this TED talk today given by an artist named Shea Hembrey, who created his own international biennial by inventing 100 different artists of his own imagination and setting out to create their “works” himself. Is it a mockery of the contemporary art scene? Perhaps, but it’s still brilliantly thought out and very ambitious of the guy to have produced such a vast and diverse “collection.” Whether or not you choose to call it art, you gotta admit there’s some humor and creativity in it, at least!
