Super Art Fight
I’ve never been a big wrestling fan (it just never occurred to me), but lately a variety of approaches to wresting have piqued my interest including Lourdes Grobet’s Lucha Libre, Kaiju Big Battel, and Chikara. In this vein, I recently attended a Super Art Fight throwdown at SPX in Bethesda, MD. Super Art Fight is a mash-up of wrestling, sketching and improv comedy in which dueling artists are given a wall of newsprint and begin drawing dueling characters egged on by the audience and a pair of wisecracking emcees. Every few minutes, the “wheel of death” is spun and the artists are forced to add whatever wacky audience suggestion the wheel lands on into the mix (some examples from the three bouts I saw included “robot goat” and “your opponent’s mom”.) If you’re interested in Super Art fight, you can check their schedule for shows or Super Art Fight Double Awesome Challenge (the online version).
