An auction find: Newlands & Co. Saskatchewan Buffalo Robe 1897
April 30, 2012
This past weekend in Orillia, Ontario, Canada, about 1.5 hours north of Toronto, we attended an estate antique auction. It was cold and outside. We traveled about an hour to get there, and over at our place, there was snow on the ground at the end of April. You get the idea.
I found this treasure for $70. It is a turn of the century blanket with buffalo fur/hair/whatever on one side, heavy wool on the other, and a thin sheet of rubber in the middle. It has the most wonderful name as you can see from my title and it is made in Galt, Ontario. Finding the post card online was wonderful, but this newspaper article was really great. Sorry for taking up so much space Pinecone Gentleman!

Is this buffalo robe for sale?
I enjoyed seeing this post. My great-great-grandfather was the founder of Newlands & Co. I’d love to find a Buffalo Robe to have as a family heirloom!
